Orillia Community Centre Coming Down Wordless Wednesday

Sad to see the Orillia Community Centre coming down. The arena is almost 64 years old. My family and friends have shared many good memories here as children and with our own children.

When the baseball diamond was sold off by the city to erect a new elementary school named The Lions Oval, many of us were disappointed to see the parkland being sold off. Personally I would have liked to have seen the new school being built on school property land where schools were being demolished, which could have been done quite easily. But as they say it's all water under the bridge now and the past is the past, forget about it and get on with it.

Housing will be going up in the arenas place. The grassed off section you see below is part of the school yard. It will be interesting to see what type of housing goes in here whether it be seniors living, townhouses, apartment buildings or a sub division.

Farewell Orillia Community Centre, you will be missed.

The last of the community centre has come down.
