Eastern Canada Pictures and TToT

Mr. Lobster

I thought that today would be the perfect opportunity to share some of my pictures from our trip to Eastern Canada with you.

Mr. Lobster here is a sovereign souvenir I picked up for myself in Prince Edward Island. He great cause he doubles as a beer opener. #1. We ate lobster for which I am thankful but the prices were out of this world. You'd think that getting lobster right from where it was caught it would be cheaper not more. Oh well, Live & Learn.

Eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, potatoes, crepe, fruit, and toast.
could you eat all of this?
#2. More food. In New Brunswick we dinned several times at Cora's Restaurant. This is a chain restaurant all across Canada but the food is absolutely amazing. I can never finish everything on my plate when we eat there. Hubby always has to happily help me out.

#3. The second time we ate at Cora's I thought I'd play it smart and order an omlette. Well I should have read more on the menu regarding how many eggs they used because this puppy was HUMONGOUS!

Omlette stuffed with ham, green & red peppers, onions. Served
with potatoes, toast and of course delicious fruit.

#4. The best thing about Trois Rivieres, Quebec, was getting out of there :) Enough said.

#5. TToT and everythone that participates in this fun blog hop.

#6. Coming home was fantastic because Maggie and Bruce missed us so much and were so happy to see us.

#7. My son Matthew handled everything while we were gone from taking care of the family business to caring and feeding the pups. He gave said something really nice to me, which was, Mom you do a lot during the day, it's hard work taking care of these dogs all day and trying to keep this house clean.
Matt cooking after a long day at work

#8. My new wall hanging. I told hubby one day that I wanted to paint bullrushes on this one wall. He said NO! I said fine then. I was shopping online at Sears one day and low and behold they had exactly what I wanted to paint. I ordered the wall hanging, got Matt to help me put it up, and said THERE! Hubby doesn't like it but too darn bad it's my house too right.

#9. Entering back into Ontario felt like coming home. We had a very long drive the last day of our trip as we were going to stay in Kingston, Ontario at the Delta. When I called to make reservations and found out what they wanted for a room we decided to drive home, which was another 3 1/2 hours.

#10. I never ever tire of seeing water or water pictures. Do you?

Silly on Sundays number 8 and Doggies Go to Jail

http://everythingsusanandmore.blogspot.ca/
Sunny Florida
I was sitting and relaxing reading a book on my mother in laws porch in sunny Florida one September day. It was as hot as hell! I always pick the wrong time of year to visit. Anyways I get a text from my son Garth saying,Phone Home! He was back in Ontario with my husband, and our two Newfoundland dogs.

It was unusual for him to be texting me, so I immediately went inside and called him. What's up, I ask when he answers the phone.

The dogs got out, he replied.

What do you mean the dogs got out!

I was talking to a friend at the front door and they both got by me.

Well did you not try and go to get them?

Oh ya of course I did, but they ran up the street so fast I couldn't keep up and now I don't know what to do.

Well get out there and find them!

I wasn't sure exactly what my son expected me to do seeing that I was 1,421 miles away.

After talking to Garth I sent a text message to my husband to let him know what was going on. I felt helpless and very worried that the dogs would get hit by a car or  kidnapped, dognapped. They are both pretty friendly and love people.

All that day and into the night I was in constant contact with my husband and sons. They'd all gone out searching and searching for Maggie Magz and Bruce with no luck at all.

The next morning I get the call that that I'd been waiting for. The dogs had been found by Matthew and Allan. They lived close to the animal shelter and thought that they'd check and see if the dogs happened to have been picked up by animal control. Sure enough there they were in an outside pen having the time of their lives. They didn't seem distressed whatsoever. Because the shelter didn't open until 11 am they'd have to wait to get them released on bail.

Hubby and my twins boys went and talked to someone at the shelter and the woman they talked to said that Maggie Magz and Bruce were the friendliest dogs she'd ever seen. They had no problems with them whatsoever and they were very well behaved. Due to this my husband only had to pay a 30.00 fine and the little jail birds were released into his custody.

Normally both dogs wear collars with their tags attached. For some reason this day they got out they were not wearing them. I'm sure that after a day or so that animal control would have read the chips that both dogs have. All is well and the dogs have had other opportunities to easily go for a walkabout since, but thankfully they've stuck around their own home and backyard.

Dogs Are Smart

When it comes to my dogs I love to talk about them, brag about them, and let people know how smart they are.

Bruce (Newfoundland Dog) when he was a puppy
Maggie Magz (Newfoundland Dog) as a puppy

When we first got Maggie Magz I couldn't believe how easy it was to train her. We'd have a little treat for her in hand, hold it over her head and she'd instantly sit.

Housebreaking took a little more time but still all in all it was quite easy. With both Maggie and Bruce I trained them the exact same way. Once an hour on the hour I'd either take them for a short walk or into the back yard to do their business. Twenty minutes after they'd have a meal out we'd go. As they got a little older I would increase it from an hour to an hour and a half. For the first two months  I would cut off their water around 7 pm at night. This really helped with nighttime accidents.

Bruce has always been a happy go lucky dog.

Maggie caught on one day that if she went to the back door and hit the doorknob with her nose it would make a rattling sound and if one of us were nearby we'd let her out. She does the same thing when she wants back into the house.

The amount of words dogs can understand has always amazed me. The other day my husband tried something with Maggie.and he was pretty astounded by it. He had a piece of a hot dog in his hand and of course Maggie wanted it. He said to her, "If you want this look at the fridge." She looked at the fridge. He continued doing this telling her to look at where the heat comes from, at the window, at the door, and then look at Mom. Seems like a lot of work for one measly piece of a hot dog but she did it and enjoyed her reward.

One night Maggie and I were at obedience training and after class I asked the trainer/groomer if she could give me some tips on how to trim the fur on Maggie's paws. We went back to the grooming room and Gail showed me how to trim one paw then told me to take her home and do the other three. When we got home Maggie promptly headed to the kitchen, jumped onto the table, laid down and spread her paws out as if to say, Okay I'm ready now .... trim up the rest. At the time I wanted to chastise her for being on the table until I realized why she'd jumped up there.

Maggie wanting her paws trimmed, outside this time.

These are my two Wonderful Pets. I can't imagine life without them.
