Streets Alive Street-Art Letters in Orillia Ontario

Streets Alive is in its fifth year of showcasing local artists creative works. This years theme is letters of the alphabet. Throughout the downtown core there are 32 six foot tall letters that have been painted and decorated. 

In front of the new Orillia library you can see the letters R.E.A.D., which will stay there permanently. 

The letter "O" was done by artist Kathryn Kaiser-Hiron, and sponsored by Mayor Angelo Orsi. This letter sculpture can be seen in front of the Orillia Opera House. 

When I first saw this sculpture I immediately thought of the song by Neil Diamond, "Sweet Caroline".

"Hands, touchin hands, Reachin out, touchin me, touchin you".

Now the more I look at it I interpret it as people coming together, helping each other, making new friends, and working as a community.

Lilacs about to bloom

Fragrance fills the air

As the tiny flowers bloom

Flourishing beauty  

Lilacs have started to bloom

The first picture of the lilacs was taken two days ago. This morning after a day of heavy rain I took the second picture. I love this lilac tree and only wish that the blooms would last throughout the summer.

InstaFrame+ Fun With Food

I recently downloaded the InstaFrame app onto my iPhone, and have been playing around with it.
The free version is good but today I decided to upgrade and purchase a different version for $1.99. The layouts are great as you can add anywhere from one picture up to 36 pictures. Because I tend to write a lot of recipe articles these apps come in very handy to display photos.

For this photo I used the free version of InstaFrame

I really enjoy using these apps although I think I may have too many of them. Another one that I like using is InstaCollage.

Wordless Wednesday Unusual Tree at Lake Couchiching Park

I've always loved this tree at Lake Couchiching Park in Orillia, Ontario. Usually when I visit this tree there are children playing on it. It is right beside the playground and if I were still a child I'd be right there exploring all the branches.  Over the years it has been cut back and trimmed. As you can see in the first picture it appears to be growing slightly out of the ground and growing sideways.
