Appalled on Remembrance Day

I was standing by my front window at 11 am today on November 11th. There is a school, Lions Oval, across the street from us. There were children running around the school yard laughing, screaming and playing from 10:45 - 11:15. There were adults walking around the school yard watching the children. So why am I appalled by this? Remembrance Day was not observed.  Is this something new in the schools? Do your children observe Remembrance Day with a moment of silence?
